A golden field, soft light, and a season worth holding onto

There is something about a field at the edge of sunset that feels almost timeless. The way the light falls just before the sun disappears, soft and golden, wrapping everything in warmth. It is quiet, unhurried, and perfect for slowing down and simply being.

This session took place in one of my favourite locations, a beautiful open field not far from my Hawthorndene studio. Long grass catching the light, scattered trees creating pockets of shade, and that dreamy glow that only happens in the final moments before sunset. It is the kind of setting that lets moments unfold naturally.

We timed this session for just before sunset, when the light is at its most flattering. It softens skin tones, adds depth, and creates that beautiful golden haze that you see throughout this gallery. It is always my favourite time to shoot, especially for maternity sessions where softness and connection take centre stage.

Mum chose one of my most loved pieces from the client closet, a flowing rust-toned gown that moves so beautifully in the breeze. It is one I find myself reaching for often. The earthy tones work perfectly with the landscape, and the fabric drapes in a way that feels both effortless and elegant. It photographs beautifully in both still moments and movement, which made it perfect for this session.

What I loved most about this evening was the connection. The quiet moments between them. The way they leaned into each other, the gentle touches, the laughter that came so naturally. These are the moments that turn a session into something more than just photos. They become memories.

Maternity sessions like this are not about perfect poses. They are about capturing a feeling. The anticipation, the love, the in-between moment before everything changes.

If you are thinking about booking a maternity session, I always recommend planning for that golden hour just before sunset. It gives us the most beautiful light and creates space for a relaxed, natural experience. No rush, no pressure, just time to connect and capture this chapter as it truly feels.

I book a limited number of sessions each month to keep things flexible and unhurried. If you would love a session like this, I recommend reaching out early to secure your spot.

Because this season, as fleeting as it is, deserves to be remembered.
