My first suggestion is always picking appropriate underwear. A plain nude set of underwear with a strapless bra and seam free nickers will work with almost any dress. Body tape is perfect for dresses with a plunging neckline or that are backless. If you would like to show some skin at your maternity session bringing along a matching set of intimates is always a good idea. Neutrals work best and they can be worn alone or under a duster or sheer dress. Photos in intimates are perfect for making your baby bump the main focus.

Footwear is another important decision. Boots or strappy sandals can work well depending on the style of dress. The one thing I usually don’t suggest is high heels, especially if you dont wear them often. They can sink into the ground and hinder your movement particularly during family portraits. Of course if you have chosen a beach location bare feet are best!

When choosing family members outfits I always recommend choosing Mamma’s outfit first and then styling everyone else around that. Coordinating outfits and not making them too matchy is the key. We want everyones individual personality to shine. Pick a colour scheme off of mammas dress and stick to it. Plain colours or smaller prints work well and anything with lots of texture always photographs great. Textured fabric like linens, lace, waffle knits, corduroys & chunky knits always look fantastic. 

Accessories can add lots of great interest to photos. Hats, scarves, layers, it all adds depth to the final image and can help bring individual personalities across.
